Author • Poet • Playwright • Creator of stories, letters & boundary-led healing
J L Givens is a Scottish author, poet and playwright from Renfrewshire. She is the author of best seller Finding Twinkle's Gift, The Witch & the Snitch, My Little Rainbow, Nutmeg Joins the Circus and Free to be me.
Since first publishing in November 2024, J L Givens has grown from grassroots beginnings into a rapidly emerging author, poet, and playwright, sharing work across Scotland through books, performance, and spoken word.
Her creative journey began with theatre, touring her first play Enchanted Web across Renfrewshire and Glasgow, alongside the release of her debut children’s book Finding Twinkle’s Gift in November 2024.
Writing for children, writing for big emotions
Since then, J L Givens has published a growing collection of children’s books that explore emotional wellbeing, identity, kindness, and resilience:
- Finding Twinkle’s Gift
- Nutmeg Joins the Circus (sequel)
- The Witch & The Snitch (a historical rhyming picture book)
- Free to Be Me (a story of inclusion and kindness)
- My Little Rainbow (a gentle grief book for Rainbow babies)
Through her work she continues to write:
big things, for little people
Stories that help children understand feelings, while offering comfort and language for life’s more complex moments.
✍️ Poetry, healing & lived experience
In 2025, J L Givens expanded her work into poetry, releasing a trilogy collection:
- Her Body Remembers
- The Girl They Targeted
- I Love My Silly Little Life (forthcoming, 2026)
This body of work explores themes of survival, identity, healing, and reclaiming joy after experiences of emotional harm and conditioning.
Touring Scotland: Cuppa, Cake & Courage
In 2026, J L Givens has spent the first half of the year touring across Scotland, performing poetry at intimate events and community spaces through her spoken word tour:
Cuppa, Cake & Courage
These performances explore trauma, emotional patterns, and the ways people learn to make themselves smaller in order to survive in the world.
The response to this work has led to a deepening focus on helping others through words, storytelling, and reflection.
Boundary Coaching & YouTube
Alongside her writing and performances, J L Givens now offers Boundary Coaching, supporting people who struggle with:
- people-pleasing
- guilt and emotional burnout
- repeating generational patterns
- losing themselves in relationships and expectations
She also shares guidance and storytelling through her growing YouTube channel, helping others reclaim clarity and self-trust through simple narrative shifts.
Society of Small Wonders (coming soon)
In keeping with her storytelling world, J L Givens is developing a snail mail subscription:
Each month, subscribers will receive a beautifully written and illustrated letter exploring themes of healing, self-worth, and gentle rebuilding.
Created in collaboration with artists and illustrators from around the world, this project is designed to bring creativity into connection and make the process of storytelling less lonely.
One of the greatest privileges of this work, J L notes, is working alongside other creatives, sharing ideas, building worlds together, and turning stories into something tangible that arrives through the letterbox.
A growing creative world
From books to theatre, poetry to coaching, and now physical letters sent through the post, J L Givens is building a connected creative world rooted in storytelling, emotional honesty, and gentle transformation.
